Robert R. Simon, MD

Chief Medical Director

Robert R. Simon, MD, is Medical Director for Private Health Management, providing exceptional clinical care and personalized service to Private Health patients. He is Professor of Emergency Medicine at Rush University Medical Center and Executive Chair of Emergency Medicine for Cook County hospitals. He is also Founder and Chairman of International Medical Corps (IMC), a nonprofit international relief organization. 

Dr. Simon has particular expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex medical cases including chronic pain and orthopedic issues.

He previously served as the first Director of a surgical techniques lab for the UCLA Emergency Medicine Program. In addition, he developed many of the surgical techniques being used today in emergency departments including alternate approaches to subclavian venipuncture, advanced plastic techniques for complex wound closures, as well as approaches to tracheotomy in a patient with massive neck swelling and arthrocentesis in smaller joints. Dr. Simon is the author of six textbooks in emergency medicine, two of which are in their 5th edition and numerous peer-reviewed publications on orthopedic care for traumatic injuries including Emergency Orthopedics: The Spine, Procedures and Techniques in Emergency Medicine, which is currently the Cook County Manual of Emergency Procedures, and Orthopedics in Emergency Medicine, the leading text in orthopedics for emergency physicians, which is internationally used and has been translated into Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. 


Dr. Simon's accomplishments have been recognized by the David K. Wagner Award from the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (2003) and the Heritage Medal of Freedom Award (1988), having been nominated for the latter by President Reagan. People Magazine ran a feature story on his work with the IMC.


Dr. Simon received his MD from Wayne State University, where he completed his Internship in Surgery. He completed his Residency in Emergency Medicine at University of Chicago Hospitals. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine.
